Welcome to the website of the Hong Kong Association of the Study of Liver Diseases (HKASLD). Founded in 1987, the main objective of the society is to promote the education and advancement in the study of the liver. In additional to regular bi-monthly scientific meetings, the society will co-organise a number of scientific educational symposiums. Due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the meetings have been held in both virtual and hybrid formats, and this is likely to continue in the foreseeable future.

I encourage our members to use this website, which includes news on all the upcoming scientific meetings and symposiums. Furthermore, the presentation slides can be viewed for those who may have been unable to attend, and recorded webinars are available for members.

The HKASLD offers a platform for knowledge exchange and the opportunity to learn from world renown leaders in the field, and to keep updated in the rapidly progressing field of hepatology. Only recently we have seen a major paradigm shift in the last decade with the availability of direct acting antivirals for hepatitis C treatment. Currently we are seeing the exciting development of emerging drugs for chronic hepatitis B, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and hepatocellular carcinoma. This is also the decade where we steer towards the World Health Organization hepatitis elimination goals of 2030.

Therefore, I would like to extend a welcome to all medical practitioners or scientists who are interested in liver diseases to join the HKASLD. You can apply for membership by downloading the form in the membership section.

Last but not least, with COVID-19 still in pandemic status, keep safe and healthy.
